Market Summary - November 14, 2008
What’s new for this week: organic gold and scarlet turnips,
watermelon
radish, red sunchokes, and baby parsnips from Wisconsin, kumquats and
dragon fruit from Florida, lady apples, persimmons, Buddha hand, and
Meyer lemons
from
California, and crab apples from Canada.
Bargains of the week are: radicchio, star fruit and artichokes
.
Tight or rising markets are: most peppers due to transition, baby
lettuces, and french beans.
Domestic chanterelle mushrooms are in still good supply and prices
are reasonable. A few domestic hedgehog mushrooms and black
trumpet mushrooms are also available. King
oyster,
shiitake,hon schmedji, and
chef’s blend, are available, and are good wild mushroom
substitutes. Chef’s blend assorted pack
mushrooms, consists of: equal portions king oyster, maitaki, hon
schmedji, and white alba clamshell.
Plenty of interesting fruit is available: sekel
pears, quince, dragon fruit, crab apples, kumquats, star fruit, fuyu
persimmons, pomegranates,
baby gala apples, meyer lemons, kiwano melons, forelli pears, lady
apples, pear apples and Buddha hand.
